In Deep by Andy Aledort
GOTTA BOOGIE
One of the greatest Chicago blues guitarists ever is Samuel Gene Maghett, AKA “Magic Sam.” Maghett moved from Grenada County, Mississippi to Chicago in 1956 and began recording singles for Cobra Records, the first of which was 1957’s “All Your Love.” Sam signed with Delmark Records
in 1967 to release his first LP, West Side Soul, often cited as the template for modern blues. Tragically, Sam would pass away of a heart attack at the age of 32 in late 1969.
