In this video Derryl improvises over a simple two five progression to demonstrate the use of the super locrian scale, side stepping, and chromatics to go “outside” the key. Next, the video is slowed down 200% without changing the pitch so that you can transcribe and analyze the solo. By doing this you will begin to understand how to connect the tension and resolution lines in a melodic fashion while training your ear.
